As a publisher, writer and speaker, to me it means designing and producing clear communication that brings people together, helps solve a problem, educates or entertains.

Raising Greater Funds is a resource for people who want to raise money for their community service organizations, but may not have the knowledge or training. Find the tips and tricks that experienced fundraisers use to raise more money in less time, and have some fun doing it!

Your Diabetic Dog: Learn to manage diabetes and keep your dog healthy

Due out in 2007, Your Diabetic Dog is the resource book for every person caring for a dog with this chronic illness. This book grew out of learning how to care for my chronically ill dog. Keetna (my beautiful Labrador Retriever) was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. After the initial shock, I had to figure out how to maintain her health on a day-to-day basis. This book provides the day-to-day care information you need in addition to advice and guidance from your Veterinarian. (See also Pet Health Focus.)

NASA

These feature articles for NASA cover the latest experiments and discoveries in various scientific fields. NASA publishes these articles on its Earth Observatory web site and in an annual print publication. See Flame and Flood and The Incredible Glowing Algae.

WestNet Learning Technologies

WestNet publishes a series of  courses that are certified by the National Association of Communication Systems Engineers (NACSE) and used by accredited colleges and universities. I developed content, including course objectives, course material, activities, and quizzes. Course development includes researching new technologies and working with subject matter experts. I also edit and index other authors' material and work closely with the editorial staff to produce these high-quality courses.

National Cancer Institute Center for Bioinformatics (NCICB)

NCICB, a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), provides scientists with tools to speed the pace of research. I am working with the metadata curation team to produce a procedural manual that will help researchers throughout the scientific community find relevant data and input new data to cancer research databases.

National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC)

NSIDC is a NASA-funded resource for scientists researching climate change. My work for NSIDC included documenting data from recent cryospheric (snow and ice) experiments. Scientists from all over the world contribute to and use NSIDC data to track climate trends. I also design and develop web sites such as Antarctic Megadunes. This site is and educational resource for adults and students who want to keep up with current research.

TensorComm

TensorComm is developing interference-cancellation technology for the cellular telecommunications industry. I work with engineers to document their new ideas from the theory stage through development and testing. I also write and edit collateral for trade shows and customer negotiations. For the company intranet I am developing a document management system using ColdFusion to connect to a database containing information about various types of documents, including thesis papers and patents.

Laurie's Photography

Laurie is an experienced portrait photography who wanted a web presence to show to clients. We worked together to design a site that showcases her work so that existing customers could see samples online. The design includes a slide show for each of her specialties: weddings, children, families, and high school seniors. Along with its original purpose of displaying samples to existing customers, Laurie's Photography is now a major resource for new finding new business.

Gruven Music Products

This music accessory manufacturer wanted to expand its wholesale business into the retail market via the Internet. I designed and developed an e-commerce site for the company, and trained the staff to use the database software for processing orders over the Web. Gruven now markets its unique line of instrument stands directly to retail customers.

OneRealm

OneRealm was a start-up company that provided software and services for companies doing international business. The growth of the company meant constantly changing demands for training material for new employees and clients. I worked with a team of experts and designers to create classroom and web-based courses that teach students how to develop applications and web sites for multilingual users. Genomica

Genomica develops software to manage the large amount of data compiled in genetic research. I provided consulting, writing, and editing services to the scientists who were developing the products. To aid this process, I developed a FrameMaker template and a corporate style guide that included everything from guidelines for writing and organizing a manual to procedures for using graphics. Along with the Genomica team, I received an award from the Society of Technical Communications for the LinkMapper^TM Software User Manual.
